I will do it in the way of a newsletter and website.  I want to be a success so my date to launch is set for 1/1/2014.

Here is the web page address to the employee directory of Health and Human Services.  This includes the CDC, NIH, SAMSA, FDA, Institutes of Health and all the rest.  It took me a long time to find this.  I cannot reconstruct the path.  I am quite sure it was an accident that I stumbled across it.

Directory of Health and Human Services

http://directory.psc.gov/employee.htm

Here is a trick. When you are trying to track down an employee put only 3 or 4 letters of the first name and last name.  You may have to play around with it a little but I promise you can find the email address and more.

Power that is brokered by the agencies through rules and regulations is staggering.  Change is never fast because of all the firewalls, roadblocks and hiding that go on.  Part of my mission is to break this process down.  Call it an informational enzymatic digestive action working on cyberspace at trans-dimensional warp speed and Scottie in heaven is working on the engines to help us in the endeavor.   So pass it on and let’s take back what so many, including my father, brothers and more have fought to preserve in the form of freedom; even those that are warped with no sense of duty, respect, courtesy or moral aptitude have a right to it.

Use it when lobbying for healthcare change.  I promise the regulations they enact under the power given to them by the government is tremendous.  You have no idea how thankful I am to my parents right now and over the last four and a half years.

This will be long but I have already looked these up.  I am not going to do anything until after the election with respect to some personal issues I want to work on due to the fact that I am lazy and don’t want to do the same thing twice.

HALF OF PART I TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR INTERACTING WITH KIDS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM AND RELATED COMMANDMENTS * (only sharing fist part – if want more go check out/buy book that’s right price!)

Link
  1.  THOU SHALL NOT YELL WHEN SPEAKING TO ME.

My disability does not impair my hearing and I am extremely bright.

Perhaps even brighter than you are.

  1. THOU SHALL NOT IGNORE ME TALK NEGATIVELY

ABOUT ME, SPEAK UNNATURALLY SLOW, OR ASK

QUESTIONS TO OTHERS IN THE ROOM THAT

PERTAIN TO ME.

  1. THOU SHALL BELIEVE IN ME AND HELP ME

BELIEVE IN MY SKILLS AND SELF WORTH.  NOTE

THE GOOD IN ME AND DO NOT MERELY POINT

OUT MY NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS.

Believe in me and I will believe in myself.

  1. THOU SHALL NOT PERCEIVE ME AS DUMB.

I am extremely intelligent. I do not learn in the same way as you, and

maybe not as quickly as you expect me to.  Have patience with me.

Once I recall information, I never forget.

  1. THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE MY BEHAVIOR

I can get overstimulated in certain environments. I maybe hypersensitive

to sound and loud noises may hurt my ears.  Fluorescent lights are

distracting for me. Thea have a humming noise and can pulsate.  All the

noises in a room can blur together. Please make accommodations to

help me.

******All of the above come from the book(pages 12 and 13) Ten Commandments Of interacting with Kids On The Autism Spectrum And Related Commandments by Mari Nosal.

Now it is time to inventory my parental behavior after seventeen years.

Commandments

  1. Of course I have yelled.  I am human.  I try not and will try even harder.   Like the Ten Commandments, it is hard for anyone to be perfect.  The point I am taking away from this is if you are doing it all the time and never make an effort there needs to be huge changes.  I try very hard and still have to watch very hard.  It is not an easy task.  I hope this book does for you what I wish I had known.  Maybe then my learned behavior wouldn’t be like kicking smoking.
  2. Guilty.  Still do this some. Yet, did a lot when he was a child.  I think most parents do this out of concern and love instead of malice. Again, younger parents and teachers take the advice and wisdom.
  3. I always believed in my son.  Careful though with all those extra therapies.  My son Tanner asked, “Mom how stupid do you think I am?”  He thought I pictured him as dumb and needed to fix him.  I told him that I had problems when I was younger and I didn’t get help.  I told him I was trying to give him something I didn’t get to help me with the stress and strain.  Perceptions and Deceptions a slight tongue imbalance but oh how the emotions roll off so different!.
  1. See 3 tis the same to me.
  2. Guilty again.  I defer a little here.  I say these kids need to be held to a same high standard.  One has to get to know these kids well while working with to figure out when they are playing you and not.  I know I have seen my son play reading on 4th grade level and finally nailed him this summer on 11th grade using a MicroSoft 2010 Grade Reading Readability Calculator.  He still tried to wiggle out but now I have him in a regular History Class.  The school provided a one on one aide without me throwing a fit.  The schools have always been great when it comes to my son.  Maybe a couple of minor things but the schools rule for me.

OVER ALL IT IS TIME TO BUY THIS BOOK…ESPECIALLY FOR YOUNGER MOMS.  SHORT STORY TIME TOO.

My son used to scream loud and piercing in the car.  I would pull over and check on him.  One automatic act was to turn off the radio.  When he got older and put two words together he said, “Music Off!”  By Ollamok20131001_195151_resized_1

PROJECT SEARCH” OR ROBBING DISABLED YOUTH? PART I.

Standard

20130427_142552tanman by himselfuss agusta3Finding employment for youth with Autism or any specific need in this area is sometimes a difficult task.  However, I have plenty of ideas that could be forged through employment with partners here in Oklahoma instead of paying the high price of “Oklahoma Project Search.”

My paper hopes an In-depth look at “Oklahoma Project Search,” and the national roots of “Project Search;” will show huge need of programs for youth with disabilities that deliver a program of fulfillment with a better comparative outlook.

Hard questions I produced and sent to the National Project Search program   are seen below from my letter to projectsearch@cchmc.org..

Sandra Adcock August 23, 2013 2:09AMTo: ProjectSEARCH@cchmc.org  cost lisc fee

“I was wondering the cost of licensing fees for each site?

Specifically what it cost the state, say Oklahoma, or school

district, or each agency? Or, do all pay a fee or contribute to

process? Why such high costs for the job coach? Why such

high cost for bonus of employment?Define successful

employment? 3 months? What is the percent success in terms

of (please put for Oklahoma stats if you will)  –

Employment in years in these:     $ amount per hour

$7-$10                    $10-$12      $12-$14

$14-$20                  $20 and above.

Also, what % jobs provide health insurance?”

Instead of the National Project Search in/@ Cincinnati Children’s getting back with me, the local or state head (I think but not sure) in Oklahoma replied back. I was given information about the program but direct questions were not answered.  Or, if they went unanswered the explanation for such was missed on my part.

On Sep 4, 2013, at 1:57 PM, “Goldston, Judi F.”  wrote: Hi Sandra: I am the Project SEARCH Statewide Coordinator for Oklahoma. Your information request has been forwarded to me by the National office. My apology for the delayed response. Then the later was writing writing writing.

Ms. Goldston did a nice job of explaining how Project Search did this and that.  How the first  program opened in 2007. She gave me the total of current active sites involved in Project Search.  Says there is a blending of currents and funding.

One answer concerning the license cost for each new site is the cost runs three hundred dollars per year.  This seems and I think is reasonable.  Project Search appears to be touted as Oklahoma’s answer to the problem of finding jobs for those with autism and other disabilities in our current time.

Ms. Goldston said they follow the guidelines of DRS regarding employment success.  From what Ms Goldston wrote to me in the reply, answers from Kimberly Osmani, and others; that success means a person worked for three months.  This is a typical employer’s probationary period.

Project Search follows the school year.  Why is this?  Does this mean OKDRS doesn’t have to follow these people in the summer?  Why would they follow the school year?  Thus, I will assume all stipulations on Voc. Rehab Counselors and Vendor Job Coaches goes through the same time frame of the school year. Does this go for ten months or what happens if a school system now has adopted the year round calendar?  Does this mean the Project Search employees will not go with the year round calendar?

This is one more thought I had and something I want you to hold in your head when I get to the stipulations of wage for the Vocational Rehab Counselor or Job Vendor Salary that comes in the agreement with Project Search, and now I am told many other job vendors or projects.

Now looking at my other questions and the information given; I would say other questions and information I wanted was left unanswered.  The attempt to fulfill my needs was interesting but not worth looking at in my opinion.

Kimberly Osmani told me the successful employment term went for all job vendors in Oklahoma.  The payment for the job coach or vendor was the same as for Project Search.  She may say she mislead me by mistake or I did not follow this highly specific question but I made sure to get the response right.  If what she says is true and we pay all OKDRS Job Vendors and Coaches $1500 for successful employment at and after three months; the program needs to be looked at by the State Senate, Governor and House with a fine tooth comb and mirror.

I asked Osmani, while I had her on the phone today Sept. 16 at close to 5pm in 2012, why at a Transition Workshop if she knew an answer was misleading or not the full intent of the parent, me, wanted in an answer; why she did not correct the answer.  She told me it was not her place or job to do so.  Yet, at workshop put on by the Oklahoma Autism Network where I asked what the prevailing wage was for those in a Sheltered Workshop; a person from OAN went on to make it look like these Workshops were okay because they could theoretically make ten times the prevailing wage.  The simple honest answer would be most often the wage is under the legal minimum wage.  I don’t care what the wage is.  I wanted the common and decent answer.  After all wasn’t the point to education parents on Transition?  Giving full complete honest information is what should happen. If a person from a different department of the state government knows it then say so.  Or, is their job more important than that of those they serve; in this case the most needed and vulnerable members of our society.

Here are specifics from a PDF on Project Search with regard to wage and salary of the Job Coaches.  Remember Osmani told me this went for most OKDRS Vendors.  I will state this an assumption.  It must be the same for OKDHS employment programs which Osmani often teams with to help in the Transition part of her job. Below are the facts from the PDF;

And $1,500 for successful employment”

Let’s step into the real world for a few minutes.  Does the definition of three months seem good enough?  Would most employment agencies get this payment?  Are their other ideas that could be found? Glad you asked.  I have been trying for years to get people to listen.  However, that seldom happens.  It does.  Below I want to thank these people that do listen, listen but do not always check to verify it they are right and those that listen beyond the overzealous wounds of a mother that has missed out on resources due to misinformation.

My main reason for sharing and that helped me the most in my life to get organized.

This way are that?

face_E03-00824_proc_50perc

I had some when I taught school 99-00, part 00-01. I would share this with you. Tell them how to redo their organization of approaching the book. I also have a son with issues and have found out I have one myself. I got through two degrees and successful career before this came to light. Hold high standards and expectations of all students. Remember the mantra, “no excuses!”

I was told and advised to bring things down a notch recently. The old line and worn out axiom about dragging a horse to water was mentioned. I replied, “You can give the horse and IV!”

So keep that in mind.

Now, tell these kids to go to the summary in the text book first. if nothing else they have the short version. A chapter is jumbled and drawn out. Then have them look at the headers and write an outline. Then vocabulary doing definitions. Finally, look at the questions and read carefully. Now they are set to read the chapter.

Have you heard of the kwl reading strategy? Have them take notes while they read it.

If you have any questions; please feel free to contact me.
